Had a very informative and interesting day yesterday at Birmingham Airport as part of the Birmingham Law Society and No.5 Chambers Seminar on doing International Business.

As well as some good presentations about the strategy of the Airport going forward we were treated to a tour “behind the scenes”, a trip in an airport shuttle around the permiter to see the runway extension and (see photo!) a look at the Airport’s new fire engines.

Even in this day and age when we can get a bit blase about air travel there’s still a bit of a thrill of being at an airport – yesterday’s trip was a great reminder of just how much work has to go in to make air travel as safe as it is.

From a business perspective the new runway extension will hopefully attract the airlines that fly to and from the US West coast and deeper into Asia.  I hope I can persuade my clients that the trip down to Heathrow really isn’t necessary
